Get help filing your income tax return through the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP) — a free service for individuals with modest income and simple tax situations.

👉 Appointments available in person 60 minutes, virtually 45 minutes, or by drop-off 15 minutes

Who can use this service?

You may be eligible if you:

  • Have a modest income
  • Have a simple tax situation
  • Live in Durham Region (or nearby)

This clinic is especially intended to support members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, while remaining open to all.

Access the benefits you deserve

Filing your taxes is the key to accessing important benefits and credits like:

  • GST/HST credit
  • Canada Child Benefit
  • Climate Action Incentive
  • Ontario Trillium Benefit

For many people, these supports help cover essentials like food, housing, and daily expenses.

At Durham Alliance Outreach, we’re here to make that process easier in a welcoming, safer space.

We can help with:

  • Employment income (T4)
  • Social assistance or disability income
  • Pension income (CPP, OAS)
  • Basic investment income (T5)
  • Tuition (T2202)
  • Rent and common tax credits

We may not be able to assist if you have:

  • Self-employment or business income
  • Rental income
  • Capital gains or losses
  • Bankruptcy
  • The deceased person returns
  • Complex tax situations

Flexible appointment types

🧾 In-Person - 1 Hour
Meet with a volunteer at our location in Oshawa.

💻 Virtual - 45 Minutes
Connect with a volunteer by phone or video.

📦 Drop-Off - 15 Minutes
Leave your documents with us and pick them up once your return is complete.

Please bring:

  • Government-issued photo ID
  • All tax slips (T4, T5, etc.)
  • Last year’s tax return (if available)
  • Receipts for credits or deductions (if applicable)
  • Direct deposit information (optional)

Before you book

  • This is a free, volunteer-run service
  • Volunteers are not CRA employees
  • We can only complete simple tax returns
  • You must provide complete and accurate information
  • Your information will be kept secure and confidential
