🌈 Faith Circle: A New Space for 2SLGBTQIA+ People of Faith

For many queer people, faith and spirituality can feel like complicated or even conflicting parts of our identity. Too often, the church and other religious institutions have used harmful interpretations of scripture to exclude and condemn, leaving many 2SLGBTQIA+ people without a spiritual home.

At Durham Alliance Outreach (DAO), we believe that faith and queerness are not opposites, but beautifully connected parts of the human experience. That’s why we’re launching Faith Circle—a monthly gathering for 2SLGBTQIA+ people and allies to explore faith, worship together, and create a safer space for spiritual reflection.

Our First Gathering: Film Screening + Fellowship

On Sunday, September 28, 2025, from 2–4 PM, we invite you to join us for the very first Faith Circle gathering at Club 717 (717 Wilson Rd South, Unit 7, Oshawa).

We’ll begin this journey with the groundbreaking film:
🎬 “1946: The Mistranslation That Shifted a Culture”

This powerful documentary investigates how the word “homosexual” first appeared in the Bible in 1946 and how this mistranslation shaped decades of church teaching and culture. After the film (90 minutes), we’ll host a guided discussion, followed by a short devotional and prayer.

A Monthly Community

Faith Circle will continue to meet on the last Sunday of every month from 2–4 PM. Each gathering will include time for worship, fellowship, and open conversation. Some months may feature films, guest speakers, or themed discussions—all grounded in a commitment to building inclusive and affirming spiritual community.

Why Faith Circle Matters

Many members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community have been told they don’t belong in faith spaces. Faith Circle exists to challenge that narrative and build a community where:

  • Everyone is welcome – regardless of background, identity, or where you are on your faith journey.

  • Faith and queerness coexist – we celebrate the wholeness of who you are.

  • Community matters – this is a space for connection, healing, and growth.

Whether you’ve stayed connected to your faith, left organized religion, or are simply curious to explore spirituality, Faith Circle is here for you.
