Thank You to the Sunday Euchre Group

Community support has always been an important part of Durham Alliance Outreach’s food-access work. We are grateful to the Sunday Euchre Group for the food and financial contributions they have provided in support of DAO and the people we serve.

Community Giving with a Local Impact

When this article was originally published, the Sunday Euchre Group was making regular contributions to DAO Pantry, including non-perishable food and financial donations. Their generosity helped strengthen the food available to community members and demonstrated how a local social group can turn time together into meaningful community support.

Food donations can help keep commonly requested staples available, while financial donations give DAO flexibility to respond to changing needs and purchase items that may be in shorter supply.

From DAO Pantry to DAO Market

Since the original article was published, DAO’s food-support program has evolved from DAO Pantry into DAO Market. DAO Market is Durham Region’s only 2SLGBTQIA+ food bank and is open to anyone in need. Working with Feed the Need in Durham, the Market uses a choice-based model that gives community members more opportunity to select food that works for their household.

This model builds on the same community generosity that supported DAO Pantry while placing greater emphasis on dignity, choice and access.

The Power of Community Groups

The Sunday Euchre Group is a great example of how community groups can make a difference. A fundraiser, food drive, recurring collection or group donation can become part of a larger network of support for people experiencing food insecurity across Durham Region.

We appreciate the Sunday Euchre Group for choosing to support DAO and for demonstrating that community-building and community service can go hand in hand.

If your club, workplace, team, faith community or social group would like to help, there are several ways to get involved:

• Donate food and essentials: Visit the DAO Market page for current program information and ways to support the Market.
• Make a financial contribution: Donate to Durham Alliance Outreach to help us respond to changing community needs.
• Organize a food drive: Groups interested in collecting food or essentials can connect with DAO in advance so we can share current high-need items and coordinate delivery.
