Canada Summer Jobs 2026 Opportunities

Durham Alliance Outreach (DAO) is Durham Region’s 2SLGBTQIA+ community hub, focused on education, peer support, and food security through the DAO Pantry.

We are excited to offer Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) positions for youth looking to gain meaningful experience in community services, nonprofit work, and inclusive programming.

All roles are designed to provide:

  • Hands-on experience
  • Skill development
  • Positions range from approximately 11–16 weeks at 30 hours per week.
  • Mentorship and supervision
  • A welcoming and safer working environment

These Canada Summer Jobs positions are based in Oshawa and serve the Durham Region community.

🥫 Pantry Worker – Food and Beverage Processing (2 Positions)

Location: Oshawa, ON
Hours: ~30 hours/week
Duration: Up to 16 weeks

About the Role

The Pantry Worker supports the DAO Pantry, helping provide food access to individuals and families in Durham Region. This role contributes directly to DAO’s mission of relieving poverty and supporting the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.

Responsibilities

  • Sort, organize, and stock food donations
  • Monitor expiry dates and ensure proper food storage
  • Assist with pantry setup and cleanup
  • Support hamper preparation and distribution
  • Greet and assist clients in a respectful, inclusive manner
  • Track inventory and report shortages
  • Support food drives, pickups, or deliveries as needed

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Attention to detail and organization
  • Ability to follow food safety procedures
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment

About the Role

The Program Assistant supports DAO’s educational programs, workshops, and outreach initiatives. This role contributes to advancing education and community awareness.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning and delivering workshops and outreach events
  • Prepare educational materials and resources
  • Support event setup and participant engagement
  • Track attendance and feedback
  • Assist with community outreach and communications
  • Help ensure programs are inclusive and accessible

Skills & Qualifications

  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Interest in education, outreach, or community programming
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team
  • Comfortable interacting with diverse communities

📱 Communications Manager – Public Relations (1 Position)

Location: Oshawa, ON
Hours: ~30 hours/week
Duration: ~11 weeks

About the Role

The Communications Manager supports DAO’s public outreach by managing digital content, social media, and website updates.

Responsibilities

  • Create and schedule social media content
  • Assist with website updates (HubSpot)
  • Support communications campaigns and events
  • Draft posts, newsletters, and promotional materials
  • Organize photos, videos, and digital assets
  • Track engagement and basic analytics

Skills & Qualifications

  • Strong writing and communication skills
  • Familiarity with social media platforms
  • Basic experience with Canva or similar tools (asset)
  • Interest in nonprofit communications and storytelling
